That Makes Sensory: Understanding Sensory Processing Differences in Children

Wednesday, May 20, 2026
11:00 am1:00 pm

This training will give parents & professionals a deeper understanding of what sensory processing is, its’ importance, & what it means when a child has a dysfunctional sensory system. Participants will learn the basics about the sensory motor loop, the 8 senses in sensory processing, the different types of dysfunction, & how a dysfunctional sensory system impacts children’s roles & routines both at home & in school. Participants will learn who can assist with sensory processing differences, & will be educated on “red flag” behaviors that when identified, may indicate need for a referral to a specialist. Participants will also be given information on play-based activities that help children grow healthy sensory systems, but that do not replace skilled intervention, in an effort to reduce modern day cultural facilitation of sensory dysfunction.

Objectives:
• Have a basic understanding of sensory processing is & the impact on developing children
• Be able to identify “red flags” of potential sensory processing differences
• Name the senses of sensory processing
• Have a basic understanding of the sensory motor loop
