Presenters: Pfeffer Eisin Erikson Institute Director DCFS Early Childhood Project. A program of the Erikson
Institute, a graduate school in child development, Stacie L. Carr, LCSW, DCFS School Readiness and Melissa Cripe
Principal Consultant, Early Childhood Illinois State Board of Education.
The Erikson DCFS Early Childhood Project is available to support any case manager and family who serve our
youngest children in care who are birth to five years old. We will present the different ways we can support you with
the families with the youngest and most vulnerable children and discuss when and how to access our support.
The School Readiness team will discuss how early childhood education lays the foundation for a child's lifelong
learning, behavior, and health. Research shows that high-quality preschool programs significantly enhance children's
cognitive, social, and emotional development. By engaging in age-appropriate learning experiences, children
develop essential skills such as language, early math, self-regulation, and cooperation.
Illinois State Board of Education will present early childhood special education services for children ages three to
five—and their families—are delivered through local school districts and special education cooperatives. These
services are guided by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part B, and are provided by
professionals trained in early childhood special education.
